And the Colour of the Year is…

topic of the articles

Every year, the various paint manufacturers poll designers and other experts to come up with their respective “Colour of the Year.” And if you have clients who must be au courante then you’ll want to know what’s on trend for the year.

Meanwhile, a Sherwin-Williams survey of designers suggests that white and grey are, um, fading in popularity, to be replaced by “beige and warmer neutrals.”

So, since you’ll be looking for something to replace all those remnant tins of Cloud White and Silver Satin, here’s our compilation of the hottest shades for 2020.

AkzoNobel

Amsterdam-based AkzoNobel, the company behind familiar brands including Dulux, chose Tranquil Dawn, describing it as “a delicate, fluid shade somewhere between green, blue, and grey.”

Beauti-Tone

Home Hardware’s proprietary paint line, Beauti-Tone, chose Honey I’m Home by Canadian stylish Simon Chang. “This warm, golden hue reflects the resurgence of camel in fashion and home. It is bold, beautiful, and pure, without being raw,” says Simon Chang.

Behr

Behr’s choice is a meadow-inspired shade of green they call, Back to Nature. “Back To Nature encourages us to reengage with the natural world, which we know can have a real, positive impact on our wellbeing,” is the word from the press release.

PPG

PPG went with Chinese Porcelain, a blue tone that the marketing manager describes as a “soothing blue [that] imparts slowness, encouraging consumers to practice mindfulness and be more present in their lives while also offering the spirit of hopefulness.” We hope this helps.
