The owners of commercial and residential rental properties often face expensive – and completely unnecessary – plumbing repairs after users carelessly flush inappropriate items down the toilet, including condoms, sanitary napkins, dental floss, and more. Saniflo’s Sanigrind Pro 1-HP pump is equipped with a built-in grinder that pulverizes these items before they can cause clogged pipes.
The Sanigrind Pro’s stainless-steel cutting blade rotates at 3,600 RPM to reduce solids to a slurry that can be ejected with the wastewater. It operates at a relatively quiet 63 dBA at a three-foot distance, comparable to casual conversation or background music.
The Sanigrind Pro makes it easy to install a three-piece bathroom on any floor of a house, from basement to attic. The versatile Sanigrind Pro works with any brand of conventional toilet with a bottom outlet, along with various makes of urinals, showers, and sinks, so clients are free to mix-and-match their preferred fixtures from a variety of manufacturers. If a bathtub or shower is being connected to the Sanigrind Pro, there must be an 8″ height difference between the base of the unit and the base of the fixture to allow for installation of a P-trap and the required ¼” per foot slope.
The Sanigrind Pro can even be used with a washing machine via an indirect connection.
There are two basic methods of installation. If the unit is installed directly on top of an existing floor, the fixtures will need to be installed on a raised platform. Alternatively, the pump can be installed below the floor. Either way, there’s no need to create a subfloor or break up a basement slab, reducing installation time and costs.
The powerful 1-HP pump is able to move wastewater from bathrooms up to 25 feet vertically for installations below the sewer line, or up to 150 feet horizontally.
Each unit has two 2″ inlets. There should be a minimum of ¼” per foot slope from the waste pipe flowing into the unit.
Waste is discharged through a ¾” or 1″ rigid pipe. A non-return valve is included on the discharge elbow assembly that can be rotated 360 degrees, allowing for installation in any configuration.
The unit also has a 1½” vent connection on top to be joined to a two-way air vent system. (Note: The use of mechanical vents, air admittance valves, or similar devices is not permitted with the Sanigrind Pro.)
The 1-HP motor is permanently sealed in an oil-filled enclosure, and a common drive shaft for the impeller and blades reduces the number of moving parts. If service is required, there’s an easy to access panel at the top of the unit. The manufacturer highly recommends that the 49″-long power cable be connected to a ground fault interrupter outlet.
