Beyond the fixtures and finishes, the rise of turning bathrooms into a soothing retreat is only getting stronger. From the big choices to the small, here are our picks to create a little zen at home.

Nothing adds warmth and luxury to a bathroom like gold hardware and finishes juxtaposed with a modern grey palette. Even the choice of a mirror can elevate the beauty and function of an ensuite. A simple design, the thick-plated bevelled mirror is framed in aluminum and has sturdy wall brackets allowing it to tilt and stay put at the perfect angle. Shown here in brass, it is available in antique bronze, polished nickel, chrome, or satin nickel.

Kensington Pivot Rectangular Mirror, starts at $324

Handcrafted in England, the new Tubo 20 from Victoria + Albert is a thermostatic wall-mounted shower mixer with easy-to-use controls, a separate handheld shower attachment and a unique eight-inch crescent-shaped showerhead featuring rub-clean rubber nozzles. Perfect for a modernist setting.

BainUltra brings the luxury bath experience into small spaces with the addition of smartly redesigned air-jet tubs in two of its most popular therapeutic bath collections: the Evanescence and the Charism.

The Charism 5736 gives a modern twist to freestanding design with a sleek silhouette and a distinctive, handcrafted band of colour that outlines the exterior of the tub.

Starts at $6,495

The paper-thin design is the attention-getting feature of this unique showerhead. The brass-ball joint ensures easy movement and the air injection technology offers a strong yet smooth flow of water. Homeowners, designers and builders alike appreciate the clean, understated look and love the experience the water spray offers the user. The new Drench rain showerheads are available in chrome and brushed nickel finishes for both sizes.

Square and round eight-inch versions in chrome start at $199
available at Emco Showrooms throughout Ontario.

The collaboration between Guthrie & Baird creates a singular sconce where planets align and the perfect light emanates. Guthrie’s precision cut glass is Saturn-like sublime, shedding a softened light on the saturnine. The LED-light source is concealed behind this circle. Its light is diffused, reflecting and refracting light. Baird’s mouth-blown spheres soften the light and attach to thickly circular backplates.

Baird is also offered in an LED option. Baird 1 light: $129; 2 light: $249, 3 light: $339; 4 light: $339; Guthrie Sconce is $390.

The Benchwright collection reflects timeless American style. A gently frosted glass shade on the sconce provides the bath with soft, luminescent light.

Antique bronze or polished nickel finish, starts at $242

The Winston from the Furniture Guild, shown here in unlacquered brass with sea serpent automotive finished panels, is the first design to come from their new metal line. The new model includes an elegant walnut interior complete with glass dividers, suede leather lining, glass-jar compartments and an integrated power option. Crafted from brass, not just a brass finish and paired with an automotive quality paint, the new Winston vanity is designed to last in demanding bath environments.

The Winston vanity starts at $7,095 and the porcelain stone top retails for $2,695

This sink has plenty of cool factor. At first look, you will be asking yourself, “Where does this sink begin and where does it end?” Its ingenious construction uses the countertop cut-out to form the bottom of the sink, creating an illusion of a seamless design, which allows the striations of the counter material to visually flow ‘through’ the sink. Only the top two inches of the rim rest on the countertop, although that may be extended up to 4.25″ on request.

Continuum sink, $1,030

Decorative architecture and Moorish style define the distinctive Persian pattern. Striking open linework contrasts with geometric patterns, giving this Conical Bell sink its finely detailed look. A white background emphasizes the pattern yet is neutral enough to complement different fixture styles. This sink makes a dramatic, artistic statement.

Caravan Persia on Conical Bell Vessel Sink, $2,071
