“These are a few of my favourite things….”
That is what I kept in mind as inspiration for transforming my chair for The Furniture Bank Event, The Chair Affair 2015.
The theme this year is “From my home to yours” – a pretty broad theme. So that’s how I interpreted it – selecting all of the things that I personally love and showcasing them all together in one uniquely designed chair.
I started with a stunning chair. It is a perfect example of a classic Mid-Century Modern armchair. Great lines, great bones, and a timeless shape.
As a Designer, it is actually quite difficult to narrow my favourites down to just a few fabrics… Fabrics are what I am drawn to, what I love, so selecting was not going to be an easy task for me!
I began with the glorious green velvet – that combined 2 of my favourite things, my absolute favourite colour and also a favourite texture. I adore velvet!! I have also always loved classic designs and graphic prints, so by using both the bold black and white lattice print and then also a wee bit of the black and white Chinoiserie toile, even just as a toss cushion, I got the best of both.
I wanted to showcase the brilliant colour against the graphic black and white geometric of the lattice, contrasting each other and allowing each fabric to shine.
And just to add a bit of life, I had to have the Chinoiserie print and the tiny Pirko dots, both trimmed in a sexy black patent leather, as toss cushions. They are both so fun and make me happy….
For me, this look was classic, bold, modern, fun, and a bit cheeky – all in one fabulous chair.
In fact, the biggest compliment that I received about this chair is when a friend said, “It looks just like you….”
For that, I have to thank my friends at Regency Upholstery and Drapes & More who did such spectacular work, and brought my ideas to life.
I truly had so much fun working on this chair, and I am both honoured and excited to be a part of The Chair Affair 2015. It’s going to be an amazing event!
